About Ljubljana City

Ljubljana is one of the most beautiful and impressive capitals in Europe. Although it's rather small in size and has less than 300.000 citizens, its beauty is unforgettable.

The good thing about Ljubljana's size is that all major tourist attractions are in walking distance. You can of course drive to Ljubljana centre and park your car in one of the parking garages or car parks. Another option is to buy the so-called Urbana card and use it to take the bus. Many people like cycling though because it’s the easiest and most economical way of getting around.

When you think about Ljubljana, the name that crosses your mind is architect Jože Plečnik. This renowned architect left his mark in Ljubljana and its surroundings – the central market, Prešeren Square, the beautiful Triple Bridge, Ljubljana funerary complex, the Cobblers’ Bridge, the Central Stadium and many more are definitely worth seeing.

Ljubljana’s symbol is a dragon – hence the wonderful Dragon Bridge, which is only 5 minutes walk away from the Triple Bridge. There are other bridges over the Ljubljanica River: the Butchers’ Bridge, the Grain Bridge, the Hradecky Bridge, the Cobblers’ Bridge and others.

Ljubljana is vibrant all year long; in spring you can enjoy the awakening of nature in Tivoli Park, in summer the town serves as a venue for numerous concerts and performances, in autumn we celebrate St. Martin’s Day, the day when must turns to wine and last but not least – wintertime is a time of joy and festive atmosphere.

If you like history you should definitely visit the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, the National Museum of Slovenia, the National Museum of Contemporary History and the City Museum. However if you are interested in art you shouldn’t miss the National Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art or many other smaller galleries scattered around the city.

It’s a good idea to stay in Ljubljana for a few days (and nights) to really experience the city and all it has to offer.
